Marjorie Main was an American actress, best known for her roles in a series of popular films in the 1940s and 1950s. She was born on February 24, 1890, in Acton, Indiana, and began her career in vaudeville before transitioning to film and television.
Main is perhaps best known for her role as Ma Kettle in the "Ma and Pa Kettle" film series, in which she starred alongside Percy Kilbride. She also had a successful career on Broadway, earning a Tony Award nomination for her performance in the musical "Make Mine Manhattan" in 1948.
Main appeared in over 80 films throughout her career, including "The Women," "The Egg and I," and "Meet Me in St. Louis." She was known for her strong, no-nonsense characters and her distinctive voice.
Marjorie Main passed away on April 10, 1975, in Los Angeles, California. She was posthumously inducted into the Indiana Film Journalists Association Hall of Fame in 2010.
